Getting There

  • Boat

    Tortuga Lodge is accessible primarily by boat. Most visitors arrive via boat from either La Pavona or Caño Blanco docks. The lodge can arrange private transportation from San José or other destinations to Caño Blanco, followed by a boat ride to the lodge. A shared boat from Caño Blanco to Tortuga Lodge costs $55 per person each way. Alternatively, you can drive to La Pavona and take a public boat for approximately 4000 CRC (~$8 USD) per person. Parking at La Pavona costs around 6000 CRC (~$12 USD) per day. From the Tortuguero airstrip, a taxi boat to the lodge is about $3-5 USD per person.

    Visitors can fly from San José to Tortuguero Airport (TTQ), a 25-30 minute flight. From the airport, Tortuga Lodge is a short boat ride away. A taxi boat from the airstrip to the lodge costs approximately $3-5 USD per person. Note that there are luggage restrictions of 12 kg/20 pounds on domestic flights.
