For centuries, this elegant plaza has been a crossroads of commerce, culture, and social life.The square's name, meaning "Stock Exchange Square," reflects its origins as the economic heart of Trieste during the 18th and 19th centuries. During this time, Trieste was a major seaport under the Habsburg Empire, and the square became the epicenter of financial activity. Merchants, bankers, and shipping magnates gathered here to make deals and shape the fortunes of the Adriatic.The Palazzo della Borsa Vecchia, or Old Stock Exchange Building, dominates the square. Completed in 1806, it was one of the first buildings in Trieste dedicated solely to economic affairs. Its neoclassical facade, adorned with stately columns and topped by sculptures representing trade and navigation, remains a symbol of the city's mercantile legacy. Today, the building houses the Trieste Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture.In addition to the Palazzo della Borsa Vecchia, the square features other notable buildings, including the Art Nouveau Casa Bartoli, designed by Max Fabiani in 1905, and the Palazzo del Tergesteo, an ancient covered gallery built in 1842 that connects Piazza della Borsa to Piazza Giuseppe Verdi.     Piazza della Borsa is located approximately 850 meters from the Trieste Centrale railway station. From the station, head east on Via della Stazione, continue straight until you reach Via Guglielmo Marconi, then turn right. Walk until you reach the waterfront promenade (Canal Grande). Continue along the promenade until you reach Piazza Unità d'Italia. From there, head southeast towards Via della Borsa. The walk is about 15 minutes.

    From Trieste Centrale railway station, take bus number 8, 9, 30 or 42 to Piazza Goldoni. From Piazza Goldoni, Piazza della Borsa is a short walk away. A one-way ticket costs €1.50.
