Getting There

• Public Bus

  From the city center of Nicosia, make your way to the main bus terminal, which is located at Solomou Square. Look for bus routes heading towards 'Larnaca' or 'Troodos'. You can take the bus number 160 or 161, which goes to Kato Larnaca. Disembark at the bus stop 'Kato Larnaca' which is close to the exit towards the highway. From there, you will need to transfer to a local bus, which will take you to the Machairas Monastery area. The closest bus stop to the trail is 'Machairas Monastery'. The total travel time will be approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on waiting times.

• Walking

  Once you disembark at the 'Machairas Monastery' bus stop, head towards the monastery itself which is a short walk from the bus stop. Follow the signs leading to the Machairas Nature Trail. The trail starts near the entrance of the monastery and is well marked. It is advisable to carry a map or have a navigation app on your phone, as the trail can lead you through beautiful yet rugged terrain.

• Bicycle Rental

  If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from a shop in Nicosia. After renting, follow the main road towards the Troodos Mountains. The route to Machairas is scenic but can be steep in parts, so be prepared for a bit of a workout. It’s roughly a 25 km ride, and you can lock your bike at the Machairas Monastery area before starting your hike on the Lazania Nature Trail.
