Discover more about Muzeum Velké Moravy

The Muzeum Velké Moravy, situated in the historic town of Znojmo, offers a fascinating glimpse into the Great Moravian Empire, a significant power in Central Europe during the 9th century. The museum is located on Hradiště, which was once part of the oldest Great Moravian fortress. Founded in 2003, the museum's exposition was completed in June 2013, coinciding with the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia. The museum features a range of exhibits, including archeological finds, models of period buildings, and reconstructions of the lives of the inhabitants of that era. Visitors can explore the archeoskanzen, which showcases reconstructed period dwellings, and a children's zoo where they can interact with traditional farm animals. The museum also focuses on the interconnectedness of humans and the landscape, observing the evolution of human life in the Podyjí region. The museum is housed in the former agricultural buildings of a monastery belonging to the Royal Order of the Knights of the Cross with a Red Star. Besides the museum, the complex includes a Renaissance entrance tower, a Renaissance hospice, Baroque stables, and a courtyard used as a relaxation zone.
