Discover more about Galerie Roberta Guttmanna - Robert Guttmann Gallery

Galerie Roberta Guttmanna, an exhibition space of the Jewish Museum in Prague, offers visitors a focused look into Jewish life and history in the Czech Lands. Named after Robert Guttmann (1880–1942), a Jewish naive artist and fervent Zionist, the gallery's mission is to present temporary exhibitions that explore various aspects of Jewish culture, traditions, and art. The gallery is located in Josefov, Prague's Jewish Quarter, in a building that once served as a Jewish hospital. The building itself, built in 1935 next to the Spanish Synagogue, was designed by Karel Pecánek. The gallery's relatively small size creates an intimate setting for viewing the exhibits. The space is equipped with modern climate control and lighting systems to protect sensitive historical materials, allowing for the display of valuable objects. The exhibitions often highlight the persecution of Bohemian and Moravian Jews during World War II and showcase the works of local Jewish artists from the 19th and 20th centuries. Contemporary visual art exploring themes of identity, memory, and resilience within the Jewish experience are also featured. The gallery aims to foster dialogue and reflection on the enduring legacy of Jewish culture. Note that the Robert Guttmann Gallery is currently closed for reconstruction, with a planned reopening in June 2025.
