Discover more about Muzeum v přírodě Vysočina, Betlém Hlinsko

Muzeum v přírodě Vysočina is not just one, but a collection of three distinct sites that together create a comprehensive picture of rural life in the Vysočina region. The main sites are Veselý Kopec, Betlém Hlinsko, and Svobodné Hamry. Veselý Kopec is where significant folk architecture from the mid-18th to mid-19th centuries has been relocated, primarily from the Hlinsko, Polička, and Litomyšl areas. Around the preserved Pilnov building, a village has been constructed using relocated structures with various original uses, offering insights into the lives of small farmers from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries. A unique collection of water-powered technical monuments can also be found here. Betlém Hlinsko, a protected heritage reserve, features wooden houses built by artisans starting in the mid-18th century. Originally inhabited by potters, the area later became home to weavers and other craftsmen. Today, visitors can explore workshops and homes of weavers, toy makers, shoemakers, and factory workers. Svobodné Hamry is a village monument zone. The museum focuses on preserving folk architecture and showcasing rural life, traditions, and crafts. It serves as a reminder of the region's rich cultural heritage, with exhibits displaying traditional crafts, agriculture, and local customs. The museum also hosts seasonal events and workshops, providing interactive experiences for visitors. The museum's origins are tied to efforts to save endangered folk and technical buildings in the Iron Mountains and the northern Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. Since opening to the public in 1972, the open-air museum has grown to become the largest facility of its kind in Bohemia.
