Salene Graveyard is one of Bornholm's most evocative archaeological sites, featuring 35 kraterrøser—distinctive crater-shaped cairns that rise from the rocky terrain of the Salene bay. These burial mounds date to the Iron Age, spanning approximately 500 BC to 850 AD, and represent a crucial window into the funerary practices and social structures of prehistoric Bornholm. Excavations conducted in 1880 of ten graves confirmed the site's Iron Age origins and provided valuable insights into the burial customs of the period.
