If you're starting from Copenhagen Central Station (Københavns Hovedbanegård), take the Metro M1 line towards Vestamager. Get off at the Christianshavn station, which is just four stops away. Once you exit the station, follow the signs to the exit. Turn right onto Holmens Kanal, and continue walking straight until you reach the canal. From there, you can see Slotsholmen across the water.
