Discover more about Wavine Cyrique Falls

Wavine Cyrique Falls, often called the 'Secret Beach' waterfall, is a captivating natural wonder nestled on the southeastern coast of Dominica, near the village of Rosalie. What sets this waterfall apart is its dramatic cascade directly onto a black sand beach where the freshwater meets the powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean. This unique setting creates a stunning visual contrast and a truly unforgettable experience for those who venture to witness it. The journey to Wavine Cyrique Falls is an adventure in itself. The trailhead is located a short distance from the main road, marked by a sign pointing towards Riviere Cyrique. From there, the path leads through lush coastal vegetation, offering glimpses of the turquoise sea in the distance. As you approach the cliff's edge, the trail becomes steeper and more challenging, requiring the use of ropes and ladders to navigate the descent. This moderately difficult hike adds an element of excitement and makes the destination all the more rewarding. The descent involves navigating steep, rocky sections, often using tree roots and branches for support. A sturdy rope ladder is fixed to a vertical rock face, providing a crucial aid in reaching the lower portion of the trail. While the hike is relatively short, lasting approximately 30-45 minutes each way, it demands a reasonable level of fitness and agility. It is not recommended for individuals with a fear of heights or those with mobility issues. Upon reaching the black sand beach, you'll be greeted by the awe-inspiring sight of Wavine Cyrique Falls. The waterfall plunges approximately 40 meters (130 feet) from the cliff above, creating a thunderous roar as it crashes onto the sand and into the ocean. The contrast between the dark volcanic sand, the lush green vegetation clinging to the cliffs, and the cascading white water is simply breathtaking. The beach itself is a secluded paradise, often deserted, offering a sense of tranquility and escape. Swimming in the ocean near the falls can be dangerous due to strong currents and waves, especially during high tide. However, during low tide, a small pool forms at the base of the falls, offering a refreshing and invigorating dip. Visiting Wavine Cyrique Falls requires careful planning. It's essential to check the tide schedule before embarking on the hike, as the beach is significantly reduced during high tide, making access to the falls difficult and potentially dangerous.
