Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the central area of Puerto Plata, head towards Calle 12 de Julio. Walk straight along this street until you reach the main square, Parque Central. Once there, continue straight down Calle José del Carmen Ariza, which will take you through the heart of the city. Follow this road until you reach the oceanfront promenade, Malecón de Puerto Plata. Turn right and continue walking along the Malecón. You will see the Fort San Felipe up ahead on the right side, perched on the cliffs overlooking the sea. It’s a short walk from the promenade.

    From any location in Puerto Plata, you can easily hail a local taxi. Tell the driver you want to go to Fort San Felipe (Fuerte San Felipe). Most taxi drivers are familiar with this landmark. The ride should take about 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. The driver can drop you off right at the entrance to the fort.
