Refugio Cotopaxi: Your Mountain Retreat

Getting There

• Car

  From the Napo Region, head south on the E28 highway towards Quito. After approximately 60 km, take the exit for Cotopaxi National Park. Follow the signs leading to the park entrance. Once inside the park, continue on the main road until you reach the Refugio Cotopaxi (Jose Ribas). The total drive should take around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Keep in mind that there is an entrance fee to the Cotopaxi National Park, which is usually around $10 per person.

• Public Transportation

  Start by taking a bus from Tena (the main city in Napo Region) to Quito, which costs approximately $8-10 and takes about 5-6 hours. Once in Quito, head to the Quitumbe bus terminal and take a bus to Latacunga, costing around $2.5 and taking about 1.5 hours. In Latacunga, transfer to a local bus or taxi heading to Cotopaxi National Park, which costs about $1-2 and takes an additional 30-45 minutes. Upon reaching the park entrance, you will need to pay the entrance fee of approximately $10 per person. Continue on foot or find a local guide to take you to Refugio Cotopaxi (Jose Ribas), located about 10 km from the entrance.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  If you prefer a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi or using a rideshare service from Tena to Cotopaxi National Park. This option will be more expensive, typically ranging from $100 to $150 for the round trip. The driver will take you directly to the Refugio Cotopaxi (Jose Ribas) entrance, ensuring a comfortable and convenient journey.
