Car
If you are driving, start from the nearest major town or city in Oriente, such as Tena or Lago Agrio. From Tena, take the E45 road heading northeast towards Lago Agrio. After approximately 2 hours, you will reach Lago Agrio. From Lago Agrio, continue on the E45 for about 20 minutes until you see signs for Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. Follow the signs towards the reserve, which will lead you to the entrance of Cuyabeno. Once you arrive at the reserve entrance, you will need to pay an entrance fee (usually around $10 per person) to access the park. After entering the reserve, travel by boat to Caiman Lodge, which is about a 2-3 hour ride into the jungle. Make sure to arrange this boat transfer in advance through Caiman Lodge.
Public Transportation
To reach Caiman Lodge using public transportation, first take a bus from Tena or Quito to Lago Agrio. The bus ride from Tena to Lago Agrio takes approximately 4-5 hours, and tickets usually cost around $5-$10. Once you arrive in Lago Agrio, you will need to catch a taxi or a local shuttle to the entrance of Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. The fare for the taxi can vary, but expect to pay around $20-$30. Upon reaching the reserve entrance, you will need to pay an entrance fee of around $10 per person. After paying the entrance fee, you will need to arrange for a boat transfer to Caiman Lodge. This boat ride typically takes 2-3 hours, and it is best to coordinate this with the lodge ahead of time to ensure a smooth transfer.
