St. John Church: A Historical Gem in Tartu

Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the center of Jõgeva County and take the Tartu highway (E263). Follow the signs for Tartu and continue on this route for approximately 45 kilometers. As you approach Tartu, take the exit toward Tartu Center. Once in the city, follow the signs to the city center and then to Jaani 5. The St. John Church will be on your left. There is street parking available nearby, but be prepared to pay a parking fee, which typically costs around €0.50 per hour.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  To reach St. John Church by bus, head to the Jõgeva bus station. There are several buses that travel to Tartu throughout the day. You can take Bus 113 or Bus 115, which typically takes about 50 minutes to reach Tartu. Once in Tartu, disembark at the 'Tartu Bus Station.' From there, you can either walk to the church, which is about a 15-minute walk, or take a local bus (number 1 or 2) to 'Tartu, Jaani' stop. The church is located just a short walk from the bus stop.

• Train

  If you prefer traveling by train, you can take a train from Jõgeva to Tartu. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes. Check the Estonian Railways website for the current schedule. Once you arrive at the Tartu train station, exit the station and walk towards the city center. It’s about a 20-minute walk to St. John Church, or you can catch a local bus (number 1 or 2) to 'Jaani' stop, which is very close to the church.
