Addis Ababa Layover Tour – Customizable City Highlights

Outstanding 4.5 hour city tour with Joe!

We were on a long layover in Addis Ababa, and decided to see what we could see of the city in a 4.5 hour tour. Honestly, we couldn’t have been happier with Joe as our tour guide for our first time in Addis Ababa (and Africa). Joe had excellent English communication and insight on how to deliver a tour with the just the right amount of “must sees” and side excursions to see the real city and learn from a local perspective. We never would have been able to cover what we did without Joe. We came away with a very good understanding of the city’s various neighborhoods and Ethiopia’s development in a changing region. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the less touristy side of the city, with adventures into the bustling market, a slip into an ethereal prayer service at a local church where we were the only foreigners, and tastes of local coffee and pastry. We are hooked and want to come back for more! Last but not least, we would be remiss not to mention what a lovely person Joe is — extremely warm and excited to show us “his country”, he became a friend after our time together and we hope to engage him again the next time we come!

Adventures in a driest land

As a solo traveler I joined a small group of wonderful people. The trip of three days had as main objectives to reach an active volcano and another beautiful volcanic site. It was a real adventure: we slept under the stars, suffered from flat tyres or bad weather conditions, we got lost by night in the desert, etc. But we had great fun altogether. And the photos taken there are praised by many friends.

Unique experience

had a great time during the Addis Ababa stopover tour. The reservation process and pickup were smooth despite an early hour. My guide Henok was very knowledgeable and passionate about Ethiopian culture and history and I couldn't ask for a better person to show me around We went to several unique places, including a private tour to see the treasures of the Holy Trinity Cathedral and understand the Ethiopian Orthodox religion. We had traditional food and coffee at great spots. I loved that the tour was very flexible, adjusted to the interests I expressed and the time of my layover. I wish could spend more time in Ethiopia, but hope to come back and explore more of this magical country. I would repeat the tour and services of my guide with no doubts.
