Taste of Addis Ababa

A Delicious Way to Experience Addis Culture

My partner and I enjoyed the Taste of Addis Ababa experience with Danakil Depression Tours because it gave us an opportunity to discover the city through its cuisine. We had tried Ethiopian food before, but we wanted to understand more about the traditions behind it. The experience introduced us to several traditional dishes and gave us explanations about the ingredients and preparation. We especially enjoyed learning about injera and how Ethiopian meals are traditionally shared. The cultural explanations from our guide were one of the strongest parts of the experience for us. We learned that food is closely connected with hospitality and social interaction, and this made the meal feel much more meaningful than simply visiting a restaurant. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable and gave us plenty of opportunities to ask questions. The pace was comfortable, and we never felt rushed while trying the different foods. We finished the experience with a greater appreciation for Ethiopian cuisine and culture.

Highlight of my Addis trip — perfect tour

A fantastic experience. With so much food to choose from in Addis Ababa, I hesitated to book a tour — I'm so glad I did. I tried things I'd never find on my own, and my guide, Fitsum, was amazing. (He's the guy you always wish you had to show you around the food scene in a new place, but rarely meet.) I could not recommend this more highly.
