Getting There

  • Walking

    Start from the center of Lalibela at the main market area. Head east along the main road, taking in the local shops and stalls. Continue straight until you reach a fork in the road. Take the left path that leads uphill. Follow this path for approximately 15 minutes. You will see a sign pointing towards the Rock-Hewn Churches. When you reach the sign, continue walking straight for another 5 minutes until you see the entrance to the churches on your right.

    If you are near the Lalibela Airport, exit the airport and turn left onto the main road. Walk straight for about 20 minutes, enjoying the views of the surrounding hills. You will see a signpost indicating the direction to the Rock-Hewn Churches. Turn right at the sign and follow the path up the hill for about 10 minutes, and you will arrive at the entrance of the churches.

    From the Lalibela Hotel, exit the hotel and head towards the main road. Turn right and walk straight for about 10 minutes until you reach the main square. From the main square, take the path leading uphill towards the churches. Follow the winding path for approximately 15 to 20 minutes until you reach a set of steps leading to the entrance of the Rock-Hewn Churches.
