Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the Lalibela Church Complex. From the entrance, head towards the main road (Yemrehana Krestos Road). Once you reach the road, turn left and continue straight for about 500 meters until you reach a junction. At the junction, take the right turn onto a smaller path that leads to Bete Medhane Alem Church. Continue walking past this church, and after about 200 meters, you will see Bete Amanuel on your right-hand side. It is a short walk from the main road, and you will recognize it by its distinctive rock-hewn architecture.

    If you are starting from the Lalibela Town Center, head towards the Lalibela Church Complex. Walk directly to the entrance of the complex and follow the same directions as above. This route takes approximately 15 minutes and is a direct path to Bete Amanuel.

    From the Lalibela Airport, if you are arriving by foot from there, take the path that leads down towards the main town. Follow the main road until you reach the Church Complex. From there, follow the directions to Bete Amanuel as previously described. This journey can take around 30 minutes.
