Getting there

Walking

From the center of Mekele, start at the main square (Mekele Meskel Square). Head north on Haileselassie Avenue towards the intersection with Gheralta Road. Continue straight onto Gheralta Road, which will take you out of the city. After approximately 4 km, you will reach a fork in the road. Take the left fork towards Garamoyti. Continue on this road for another 7 km until you reach the village of Garamoyti. Once in Garamoyti, ask locals for directions to Gemeru Water Fall; they will guide you to the trailhead, which is about a 30-minute walk from the village.

Biking

From Mekele, rent a bicycle at one of the local rental shops near the main square. Begin your journey by cycling north on Haileselassie Avenue towards Gheralta Road. After about 4 km, you will reach a fork in the road. Take the left fork towards Garamoyti. Continue cycling for approximately 7 km until you arrive in Garamoyti. Once there, park your bike and ask for directions to Gemeru Water Fall. The trailhead is a 30-minute hike from the village.

Public Transport

From Mekele, head to the local bus station (known as 'bus terminal'). Look for a minibus heading to Garamoyti; these are often marked with their destination. The journey will take about 30-45 minutes. Once you arrive in Garamoyti, disembark and ask locals for directions to Gemeru Water Fall. The trailhead is approximately a 30-minute walk from the village center.
