Fossá Waterfall, meaning 'river with a waterfall', is a must-see natural wonder in the Faroe Islands. Located on the northern part of Streymoy Island, near the village of Haldarsvík, Fossá is easily accessible by car and public transportation. The waterfall dramatically cascades down two levels, totaling 140 meters (459 feet), making it the tallest waterfall in the Faroe Islands.The contrast between the white water and the dark basalt cliffs creates a striking visual. Visitors can get close to the waterfall, feeling the refreshing spray on their faces. Fossá is especially impressive after heavy rainfall, when the water flow increases and the surroundings become enveloped in a fine mist. However, even in drier periods, the waterfall maintains its beauty.While visiting Fossá, take the opportunity to explore the nearby village of Tjørnuvík, known for its black sandy beach and surfing opportunities. The village of Saksun, with its turf-roofed houses and historic church, is also a short drive away.
