From central Klaksvík, the hike to the trailhead at Hálsur takes approximately 45 minutes. Follow the gravel path Niðan Horn, which leads to Astarbravt road, also known as 'the love path'. Continue along this path to the parking area near a small lake at the mountain pass of Hálsur. From there, the ascent to the peak takes around 45 minutes.

Arriving in Klaksvík by bus from Tórshavn , the starting point for the Klakkur hike is easily accessible. Klaksvík has a free town bus service. From the bus stop in Klaksvík, walk along the harbor and follow the road Niðan Horn. This road leads to the trailhead at Hálsur. Walking from the bus stop to the trailhead takes approximately 45 minutes. Bus route 400 runs between Tórshavn and Klaksvík. A multi-day travel card can be used for bus and ferry travel.

From Klaksvík, drive along Niðan Horn road towards the mountain. Continue on the gravel road (Ástarbreytin or 'the love path') to the parking area at Hálsur. The last part of the gravel road is steep and may not be suitable for all two-wheel-drive vehicles. Parking is free. Space is available for approximately 10 cars. From the parking area, the hike to the summit takes around 45 minutes.
