    From the village of Sandvík, head southeast on Heiðavegur road, following signs to Ásmundarstakkur. Drive for approximately 1.5 km until you reach a small parking area on the left side of the road, just before an isolated house and the Sandvíksá stream. Park here and continue on foot to the trailhead. Be cautious on the unpaved road.

    Check the local bus schedule for routes servicing Sandvík. Take the bus to Sandvík bus stop, which is central to the village. From the bus stop, walk southeast towards the main road (Route 10). It's about a 30-minute walk (approximately 2.5 km) to the Ásmundarstakkur trailhead. Follow the road, turning left onto Heiðavegur road, and walk until you reach the parking area.

Ásmundarstakkur trailhead is a starting point for exploring the dramatic coastal scenery of Suðuroy, the southernmost island in the Faroe Islands. Located near the village of Sandvík, the trailhead gives access to hikes with views of rugged cliffs, lush green valleys, and the North Atlantic Ocean. The main attraction is Ásmundarstakkur, a 109-meter-high sea stack that rises boldly from the sea. The hike to Ásmundarstakkur and the nearby Rituskor bird cliffs is a unique experience. A narrow wooden bridge spans a gorge, leading to Rituskor, offering breathtaking views. The area is also rich in birdlife, with various species nesting in the cliffs. Sandvík itself is one of the oldest villages in the Faroe Islands, with a history dating back to the Viking age. According to the Færeyinga Saga, the Viking chieftain Sigmundur Brestisson swam to Sandvík in the 11th century after being attacked. Today, a statue of Sigmundur stands in Sandvík.
