Vestmanna: Village of Sea Cliffs and Viking History
Explore Slættanes, an abandoned Faroese village offering a unique glimpse into the islands' past and a tranquil escape into nature.
Slættanes, an abandoned village on the island of Vágar, Faroe Islands, offers a poignant glimpse into a pre-modern way of life. In the mid-1950s, over a hundred people called this remote village home, but by 1965, it was deserted due to its isolation and lack of modern amenities. Today, the well-preserved houses stand as silent witnesses to a bygone era, now serving as summer homes for descendants of the original residents.
Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
