Discover more about Vestmanna

Vestmanna, nestled on the west coast of Streymoy Island in the Faroe Islands, serves as the primary access point for exploring the dramatic Vestmanna Sea Cliffs. Historically a farming and fishing village, Vestmanna, also known as Vestmannahavn (Westman's harbor), hints at early settlements by Irish monks, referred to as 'westmen' by the Vikings. Today, Vestmanna is a popular tourist destination, offering boat tours to the Vestmanna Sea Cliffs (Vestmannabjørgini), a 6km stretch of towering cliffs north of the village. These cliffs are home to thousands of seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, and fulmars, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. The boat tours navigate through narrow straits and grottoes, providing close-up views of the stunning rock formations and diverse birdlife. Weather permitting, boats sail into natural caves formed by waves. Beyond the sea cliffs, Vestmanna offers other attractions, including the Saga Museum, which depicts the history of the Faroe Islands through wax figures. The village is surrounded by mountains, offering hiking opportunities with panoramic views. Vestmanna also provides essential services for travelers, including accommodations, restaurants, and a campsite.
