This easily walkable path traces the banks of the Pajakkakoski Rapids, the largest free-flowing rapids in the Kainuu region. The trail is approximately 1 kilometer long and presents captivating views of the wild, rushing waters. Historically, the Pajakkakoski Rapids played a vital role in Kuhmo's economy. In the 1800s, tar boats were rowed through these waters towards Oulu. The rapids were also cleared in 1870 to ease the passage of boats and prevent log jams, with a stone pier, or "möljä," constructed to aid in towing. Today, a wooden path crosses the möljä, offering a unique vantage point for fishing and admiring the rapids. As you walk the trail, you'll be surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of rushing water. The path is an excellent spot for birdwatching and photography, with opportunities to capture the vibrant colors of the landscape. The trail connects to the Rantaraitti (Riverside Walk), which leads to cultural attractions like the Kuhmo City Library, Tuupala Museum, and the Kuhmo Chamber Music Center. For those seeking a longer trek, a trail from near the bridge extends to the Suvanto lean-to, a distance of about 2 kilometers, where you can enjoy a meal by a campfire. The Suvanto lean-to is also accessible by car.
