Vartiolaiva Koskelo is a captivating piece of Finnish maritime history, now permanently docked at Vesijärvi harbor in Lahti. Built in 1955, this 30-meter-long vessel served as a coastal patrol ship for the Finnish Coast Guard. The Koskelo class was the first class to have a steel hull in the Finnish coast guard. Decommissioned in 1986 and sold to a private owner, the ship faced a series of challenges, including sinking in 1987. However, it was salvaged and eventually found its way to Lahti harbor, where it has been restored and repurposed as a tourist attraction. Today, Vartiolaiva Koskelo offers visitors a chance to explore its decks and learn about its history. The ship has a Bofors 40mm gun. Vesijärvi Harbour itself is a vibrant area, offering boat tours, restaurants and cafes.
