Discover more about Letonniemi Nature Preserve

Letonniemi Nature Preserve offers a tranquil escape into the unique coastal environment of the Bothnian Bay. Established in 1994, this 44-hectare preserve protects a dynamic landscape shaped by post-glacial rebound, a process where the land gradually rises from the sea. This phenomenon creates a fascinating succession of habitats, from bare islands to lush coastal meadows and forests. The 2.7-kilometer nature trail winds through diverse terrain, providing an up-close look at the area's flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for various bird species, including willow warblers, chaffinches, redshanks, and oystercatchers. The trail also features duckboards in wetter areas, ensuring a comfortable walk. Along the path, you'll find a former seafaring navigation device, now standing inland as a testament to the ongoing land uplift. At Piispanletto, near the cape's tip, a birdwatching tower offers panoramic views of the coast and sea. A covered rest area with a campfire site and firewood provides a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Please note that during wetter times, firewood delivery may be temporarily suspended. Visitors are welcome to pick berries and mushrooms, but harming plants or plant parts is prohibited. During the bird nesting season (May-July), it's best to avoid walking on the coastal meadows.
