Discover more about The House of the St. John's Knights

The House of the St. John's Knights, or Maison des Chevaliers de Saint-Jean, is a striking historical monument in Colmar, France. Constructed in 1608 by architect Albert Schmidt, who also designed the House of Heads and the House of Arcades, it showcases a unique architectural style reminiscent of Venetian palaces. Despite its name, the house has no historical link to the Knights of St. John. The building was dismantled in the 19th century and rebuilt identically, preserving its original design. The facades and roofs have been classified as historical monuments since July 9, 1903. The house features two wings perpendicular to the street, framing an enclosed inner courtyard. A two-story gallery with arched arcades and a stone balustrade connects the two buildings. The street facades are adorned with mullioned windows, and the galleries are rebuilt identically in the 19th century. The first floor has cross vaults, while the second is vaulted with ribbed vaults.
