Getting There

• Public Transport

  From Marseille Saint-Charles train station, exit the station and head to the nearby Metro station. Take Metro line 1 (the red line) towards La Timone. After two stops, get off at the 'Vieux-Port' station. Once you exit the station, walk towards the Old Port (Vieux-Port) area. You will see the waterfront and the famous boats. From the Vieux-Port, head to the left side along the promenade until you reach the 'Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde.' Continue walking to the end of the promenade, and you will see the path leading up to La Citadelle de Marseille (Fort Saint-Nicolas). Follow the signs for 'Fort Saint-Nicolas' which will guide you to the entrance.

• Walking

  If you are already in the Old Port area, you can walk to La Citadelle de Marseille. Start from the waterfront, facing the water, and walk along the promenade heading towards the 'Vieux-Port' ferry terminal. Continue walking straight until you reach the base of the hill where the fort is located. Look for the pathway leading up the hill; it is a bit steep but well-marked with signs. The walk should take around 20-30 minutes, depending on your pace.

• Bus

  From Marseille Saint-Charles train station, walk to the nearby bus stop 'Gare Saint-Charles.' Take bus line 60 towards 'Les Goudes.' After approximately 10 minutes, get off at the 'Mnt du Souvenir Français' stop. From there, follow the signs directing you to La Citadelle de Marseille (Fort Saint-Nicolas), which is a short walk uphill. The fort will be visible as you approach.
