Discover more about Château de la Lorie

Château de la Lorie, situated just outside Segré on the Angers-Rennes road, stands as the most northerly of the Loire châteaux. Constructed during the reign of Louis XIII in 1632 by René Le Pelletier, the castle has been expanded and embellished through the centuries. Today, it opens its doors to visitors for an exceptional tour of its interiors and grounds. The castle boasts a grand salon made entirely of marble, reminiscent of princely palaces. The large gallery, designed by the Marquis de Saint-Genys, houses a fine collection of paintings and antiques. The dining room, conceived by the renowned architect Camut, was custom-made to accommodate wood panelling from Château de Vitry-sur-Seine. The interiors reflect the grand Parisian style of the 1730s. The château is set within a French-style park created by landscape architect Edouard André, featuring wide esplanades that seamlessly blend with the surrounding countryside. The grounds also include a former hippodrome, reflecting the estate's history of horse breeding. Visitors can explore the castle's history through guided tours available in French, English and Spanish. The castle hosts events and exhibitions, including the Château Merveilleux during the summer.
