Driving
From the Moorea ferry terminal or airport, rent a car or scooter and head towards 'Āfareaitu village on the southeast coast. The drive is approximately 10-15 minutes. Follow the main road (Route de l'Opunohu) and look for signs indicating the turnoff to either Putoa Waterfall or Vaioro Waterfall. The routes diverge near the Afareaitu Hospital. Be prepared for a bumpy dirt road leading to the trailheads. A small parking fee (around 200 XPF) may be collected by a local near the Putoa trailhead.
Walking
If you are already in 'Āfareaitu village, you can walk to the waterfall trailheads. From the main road (Route de l'Opunohu), head towards the interior of the valley, following signs for either Putoa or Vaioro Waterfall. The walk to the trailhead will take you through local houses and lush scenery. Be aware that the road to the trailhead is unpaved and can be muddy.
