Discover more about Grottes De Mara'a

Nestled on Tahiti's west coast, the Grottes de Mara'a offer a serene escape into nature's artistry. These caves have been sculpted by the relentless trickle of water, creating unique geological formations. The site comprises three main caves: Te-ana-pape-o-Vai-poiri, Mata-va'a, and Vai-patoto, each with its distinct charm. Te-ana-pape-o-Vai-poiri, the largest of the three, is famous for its black water lake, which creates a captivating optical illusion. The arched ceiling appears to descend, making the cave seem smaller than its actual 80-meter length. The cave's reflections in the crystal-clear waters create a magical mirror effect. Mata-va'a and Vai-patoto, though smaller, offer equally enchanting experiences. The caves are surrounded by lush vegetation, including vibrant water lilies and majestic bamboo, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere. The dripping water maintains a cool, humid environment, fostering the growth of ferns and moss on the cave ceilings. The Grottes de Mara'a also hold historical significance, with rumors of the caves being used for rituals and gatherings by local communities. The site serves as a landmark for fishermen, visible from the sea despite being hidden from the road by dense vegetation. Visitors can explore the caves on foot, appreciating the intricate details of the rock formations. For the adventurous, a trail leads up the hill, offering panoramic views of the valley and coast.
