Fa'aruma'i Waterfalls, also known as the Three Cascades, is a captivating natural attraction in Hitiaa O Te Ra, French Polynesia, offering a serene escape into the heart of Tahiti's lush landscapes. The site features three distinct waterfalls, each with its own unique charm. The most accessible and frequently visited is the Vaimahuta Fall, which can be reached with a short, easy walk from the parking area. It has a vertical drop of 262 feet (80 meters). The trail to Vaimahuta is a gravel path that meanders through tropical trees alongside a flowing stream. The plunge of Vaimahuta Falls is a breathtaking sight, often creating a misty atmosphere that adds to the magical experience. The other two waterfalls, Haamaremare Rahi and Haamaremare Iti, are a 20-30 minute walk from Vaimahuta. Haamaremare Rahi is the tallest of the three, standing at approximately 328 feet (100 meters), while Haamaremare Iti is the smallest, with a height of 131 feet (40 meters). An observation deck provides a vantage point to view these falls. According to local legend, the Fa'aruma'i Waterfalls served as a secret hiding place for Princess Fa'uai and her lover, Ivi, who were forbidden to be together. It is said that the three waterfalls were formed as a result of their tragic love story. The falls are fed by rainwater and mountain streams, which channel down the cliff and form the waterfalls. The runoff then feeds the Faarumai River, which meanders through the valley and village before flowing into the ocean.
