Martvili Canyon: A Natural Wonder of Georgia

Martvili Canyon, situated in the Martvili-Taleri-Chkhorotsku area of Georgia's Samegrelo region, is a breathtaking natural monument on the Abasha River. The canyon boasts a 2.4-kilometer gorge with cliffs reaching heights of 50 to 70 meters, surrounded by verdant foliage and fed by cascading waterfalls. The vibrant turquoise waters of the Abasha River add to the canyon's allure, making it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. In 2013, Martvili Canyon was granted national monument status, recognizing its natural and historical significance. The canyon's popularity has surged since reconstruction efforts in 2019, drawing increased attention to its scenic beauty. A 700-meter circular hiking trail guides visitors through the canyon, featuring the historic Dadiani Walkway, bridges, viewing platforms, and a limestone staircase. The Dadiani family, who once ruled the Samegrelo region, used this walkway to access their private bathing pools. One of the most enchanting experiences at Martvili Canyon is the boat ride, which takes visitors through the northern part of the park, an area largely inaccessible by foot. The 20-minute boat tour glides through the most impressive section of the gorge, offering unique perspectives of the canyon's beauty.
