Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Mtskheta, head towards the Mtskheta Bus Station located on Aghmashenebeli Street. Once there, look for a bus or minibus heading towards Tbilisi. The buses typically leave every 15-20 minutes. Make sure to ask the driver if the bus stops near the village of Birtvisi or the trailhead to Birtvisi Fortress. Depending on the bus route, you may need to get off at the closest stop to the fortress, which is often in the vicinity of the village of Kvakhvreli. From there, follow the signs for the hiking trail leading to Birtvisi Fortress. The walk from the bus stop to the fortress will take approximately 30-45 minutes along a marked path.
