Driving
The most common way to reach Gombori is by car from Tbilisi. The journey starts near the Vaziani settlement and follows the Tbilisi-Telavi highway. The drive to Gombori Pass takes approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes, covering around 65 kilometers. Be prepared for sharp turns and steep inclines as you ascend the pass. In winter, check road conditions as the pass may be closed due to snow. There are no tolls on this route, and parking is available at scenic viewpoints along the way. Car rentals in Tbilisi typically range from 50 GEL to 150 GEL per day.
Public Transport
While there's no direct public transport to Gombori itself, you can take a marshrutka (minibus) from Tbilisi to Telavi. These depart from the Ortachala bus station in Tbilisi and cost approximately 10-15 GEL. From Telavi, you can hire a taxi to explore the Gombori area. A taxi from Telavi to Gombori Pass and back will cost around 50-80 GEL. Keep in mind that marshrutkas can be crowded and the journey can take longer than driving.
