The Vinzenzbrunnen (St. Vincent's Fountain) graces the Münsterplatz in Aachen, standing as a testament to the city's rich history and artistic heritage. Consecrated in 1847, the fountain is the creation of Aachener sculptors Wilhelm Josef Wings and Gottfried Götting, following a design by city architect Friedrich Joseph Ark. It replaced an older fountain on the same site. The fountain's design, with its Heilbronn sandstone construction, reflects the Gothic style of the neighboring Aachen Cathedral's choir hall, the Anna Chapel, and the Matthias Chapel. The square structure features statues in niches on all four sides. These figures, completed in 1877 due to financial constraints, are the work of Götting. The side facing the Aachen Cathedral features a statue of Mary, leading some to call the fountain the Marienbrunnen or Mariensäule (St. Mary's Fountain or Column). The opposite side, facing the former Vinzenzhospital (now the Sparkasse Aachen building), displays a figure of St. Vincent de Paul, patron saint of charitable institutions. Below this is a water outlet crafted into a sun face with a small basin. The west side features Archangel Michael, while the east side, towards St. Foillan Church, bears the figure of Bishop Foillan. The fountain is adorned with the city's coat of arms beneath these figures. Originally, a wrought-iron fence surrounded the fountain, but it was removed in the early 20th century. War damage was repaired in 1951 with the financial support of Stadtsparkasse Aachen. Today, the fountain stands on an octagonal, three-stepped base of bluestone. The Münsterplatz, where the Vinzenzbrunnen is located, is a vibrant hub in Aachen's Old Town, hosting markets and events.
