From the center of Essen, head to the 'Essen Steele' tram station. You can take Tram Line 107 towards 'Dortmund'. Stay on this tram for approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the 'Dortmund Mergelteichstraße' stop. From there, it's about a 10-minute walk to Dortmund Zoo. Head south on Mergelteichstraße, and you will find the entrance to the zoo on your right.

Start at Essen Hauptbahnhof (main train station). Take the S-Bahn line S1 towards Dortmund. The journey will take around 25 minutes. Disembark at the 'Dortmund Hbf' station. From there, transfer to Tram Line 4 (direction 'Hömmerich') and ride for 10 stops until you reach 'Dortmund Mergelteichstraße'. Walk approximately 10 minutes south on Mergelteichstraße to reach Dortmund Zoo.
