Getting There

  • Public Transport - Tram

    From Essen Hauptbahnhof (the main train station), take Tram Line 107 towards 'Dortmund' and board the tram at the tram stop located just outside the station. Stay on the tram for approximately 20 minutes. You'll pass several stops, but stay on until you reach the 'Dortmund Hbf' stop. Once you arrive at Dortmund Hbf, transfer to Tram Line 1 towards 'Hörde' and get off at the 'Königswall' stop. From there, it’s just a 5-minute walk to Schauspielhaus. Head west on Königswall and take a left onto Hiltropwall; Schauspielhaus will be on your right at Hiltropwall 15.

  • Public Transport - Bus

    From Essen Hauptbahnhof, you can also take Bus Line 196 towards 'Dortmund' at the bus station outside the train station. This bus will take you directly to the 'Dortmund Hbf' bus stop. Once you arrive, transfer to Tram Line 1 towards 'Hörde' and get off at 'Königswall'. From there, walk west on Königswall and turn left onto Hiltropwall; Schauspielhaus will be on your right at Hiltropwall 15.

  • Walking

    If you prefer to walk, starting from the center of Essen, head towards the east along Gladbecker Strasse. Continue straight and follow signs for the A40 motorway. Once you reach the A40, cross the road and continue on the pedestrian paths towards Dortmund. This is a longer route and will take around 1.5 hours, but it will take you through some scenic areas. Upon reaching Dortmund, navigate towards Hiltropwall, and you will find Schauspielhaus located at Hiltropwall 15.
