Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the Marktplatz (Market Square), the central hub of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. From the Marktplatz, head south on Herrngasse, which is a charming street lined with shops and cafes. Continue straight until you reach the end of Herrngasse, where it intersects with the larger street, Spitalgasse. Turn right onto Spitalgasse and proceed until you see the entrance to the Stadtmauer (city wall) on your left. Enter the city wall at this point. Continue along the wall path to your left, enjoying views of the surrounding countryside, until you reach Oberes Tor, which is a prominent tower and part of the old city wall. The tower should be clearly visible from the walkway.

    If you are near the Rothenburg ob der Tauber's famous Plönlein (the little square with the two iconic towers), start by facing the yellow house on the corner. Walk straight down the narrow road, which is called Geisengasse. As you walk, you will see the beautiful half-timbered houses. Follow Geisengasse until you reach the intersection with Spitalgasse. Turn left onto Spitalgasse. Continue walking straight until you reach the entrance to the Stadtmauer (city wall) on your right. Once you're on the wall, proceed left along the pathway until you arrive at Oberes Tor.

    If you are near the Rothenburg ob der Tauber's train station, exit the station and head towards the city center. Walk along Bahnhofstraße until you reach the intersection with Hindenburgstraße. Turn right onto Hindenburgstraße and continue walking straight. After a short distance, you will see signs directing you towards the old town. Follow these signs, and you will eventually reach the city wall. Once you arrive at the wall, turn left and proceed along the walkway until you spot Oberes Tor ahead.
