The Gibraltar Botanic Gardens, also known as La Alameda Gardens, provide a refreshing escape in the heart of Gibraltar. Founded in 1816 by Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Don, the gardens were intended as a recreational area for soldiers and a shady retreat for residents.
