Discover more about Military Heritage Centre

The Military Heritage Centre offers a captivating journey through Gibraltar's rich military history. Located within the historic Princess Caroline's Battery, a former artillery fortification dating back to 1732, the centre provides a comprehensive look at Gibraltar's strategic importance over the centuries. Named after King George II's third daughter, Princess Caroline's Battery played a role in the Great Siege of Gibraltar (1779-1783). The battery was later updated to accommodate more modern weaponry. Today, the Military Heritage Centre houses a collection of relics from the 18th century to the present day, including weapons, shells, uniforms and other artifacts. Visitors can explore exhibits detailing the daily life of soldiers stationed in Gibraltar, the evolution of military technology, and the key battles and sieges that shaped the territory's destiny. One of the most interesting exhibits is a recreation of a World War II-era bunker, complete with original equipment and furnishings. The centre also features a memorial chamber dedicated to the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy, and British Regiments that served in Gibraltar. Interactive displays and multimedia presentations enhance the experience, offering deeper insights into Gibraltar's military past.
