The Windsor Suspension Bridge, inaugurated on June 21, 2016, is a pedestrian bridge that has quickly become one of Gibraltar's most iconic attractions. Spanning 71 meters, it stretches across a 50-meter deep gorge within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, connecting two batteries along the Royal Anglian Way. This bridge is not for the faint of heart, as it sways slightly when walked upon, adding an element of adventure to the crossing.Constructed by Bovis Koala, a Gibraltar-based contractor, with collaboration from Muntanya, a Spanish firm specializing in suspension bridges, the bridge's components were assembled in Spain and transported to Gibraltar. The bridge forms part of a broader initiative to enhance the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, improving trails and opening historical areas to the public.Crossing the Windsor Suspension Bridge offers unparalleled panoramic views. From the bridge, visitors can see the Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Gibraltar, the Bay of Algeciras, and the North African coastline on clear days. The bridge's location between two World War II artillery batteries adds historical context to the experience. The Windsor Suspension Bridge has become a symbol of Gibraltar, blending its natural beauty, military history, and modern engineering.Visitors can access the bridge via the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. There are two main routes: a steep, winding path (potentially challenging for those with mobility issues) and a more level path accessible near the Apes' Den.
