Getting There

    From Olympiada, drive west for approximately 7 km towards Varvara. Look for a sign indicating the Varvara Waterfalls and turn right onto a dirt road. Continue on this dirt road for about 2.5 km, exercising caution as it can be narrow and bumpy. At a hairpin turn, follow the road to the left. After about 900 meters, you'll reach the parking area for the waterfalls. From the parking area, it's a short 5-10 minute walk to the waterfalls. There are no parking fees.

    From the village of Olympiada, the hike to Varvara Waterfalls takes approximately 2 hours, passing through the area of Kalivia Varvaras. From the village of Varvara, the walk is about 3 hours, with a drinking fountain along the way. Once you reach the parking area, follow the marked paths and wooden bridges for a 5-10 minute walk to the waterfalls. The trails are well-maintained but can be uneven in places, so wear appropriate footwear.

The Varvara Waterfalls, also known as Aggelousis waterfalls, are a pair of stunning cascades hidden in the dense forests of Halkidiki, Greece. Located between the villages of Varvara and Olympiada, these waterfalls provide a refreshing and picturesque escape. The area is characterized by a rich ecosystem, featuring various tree species such as beeches, oaks, alders, wild hazels, and lindens. The waterfalls themselves are not very tall, but they are elegant and surrounded by vibrant greenery. Crystal-clear water tumbles over moss-covered rocks into cool, natural pools, creating a tranquil atmosphere. The water eventually flows into the Mavrolakas River, which forms the natural boundary between Olympiada and Varvara. Visitors can explore two waterfalls, each offering a unique perspective. The first waterfall is easily accessible via a path to the left of the parking area, about 320 meters away. The second waterfall, located to the right, is a bit closer and allows you to admire it from above. Wooden bridges and well-marked paths enhance the experience, making it suitable for families with children. The area is part of the Natura 2000 network, indicating its ecological importance.
