    Saint Paul's Gate, nestled within the historic walls of Rhodes Old Town, offers a captivating glimpse into the island's medieval past. Built in the 15th century by the Knights Hospitaller, also known as the Knights of St. John, the gate formed part of a sophisticated defense system designed to protect the city from invasion. The gate controlled movement between the Mandraki and Commercial harbors.Named in honor of Saint Paul, who, according to Christian tradition, visited Rhodes in 57 AD, the gate stands as a symbol of resilience and faith. The structure has witnessed numerous historical events, including the siege by the Ottoman Empire in 1522. The gate was almost completely demolished during World War II and was rebuilt in 1951.Architecturally, Saint Paul's Gate exemplifies the military engineering of the era. A polygonal bulwark surrounds the central tower. The gate features a marble plaque with a relief of St. Paul. Coats-of-arms of Pope Sixtus IV and Grand Master d'Aubusson are incorporated above it.
