The Roman Forum of Thessaloniki, also known as the Ancient Agora, offers a captivating glimpse into the city's Roman past. Located in the heart of Thessaloniki, between Egnatia and Agiou Dimitriou streets, this archaeological site was once the bustling center of social, religious, and administrative life. Constructed in the late 1st and 2nd centuries AD, it served as the city's focal point for centuries. Accidentally discovered in the 1960s during excavations for a new courthouse, the Roman Forum's unearthing led to the abandonment of the construction project and the initiation of extensive archaeological work. The Forum features two-story stoas adorned with Corinthian columns, an odeon used for gladiatorial games and public performances, and the remains of Roman baths. The cryptoporticus, a semi-underground corridor, now houses a museum displaying artifacts from the Hellenistic to the Ottoman periods, providing insights into the city's rich history. The museum showcases a collection of artifacts, offering a glimpse into daily life, culture, and the architectural achievements of ancient Thessaloniki.
