River Sallee Boiling Springs: Grenada's Geothermal Wonder

The River Sallee Boiling Springs, located in the northern parish of St. Patrick, Grenada, offer a unique glimpse into the island's volcanic activity. These springs feature a collection of six pools, some with gas bubbles constantly escaping, maintaining a temperature around 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius). The springs are located about 1.5 miles north of the Lake Antoine volcano and south of Levera National Park.The largest pool has muddy brown water, is 15 feet (5 meters) in circumference, and is about 6 feet (2 meters) deep. Many visitors come to dip in the pool or have local guides rub the soothing earthy mixture on their skin. The other, smaller holes are filled with clear, salty water, despite being more than a mile from the sea. Orange-yellow sulphur deposits can be seen in the runoff channels.Visitors can indulge in sulphur baths, mud body massages, and loofah treatments, followed by relaxation in warm sulphur pools and cleansing with water from a sulphur spring well. Some pools have been enlarged to allow visitors to test the rumored healing powers of the sulphur springs. The site also holds traditional religious significance for area Baptists who perform rituals here.
