Discover more about Senator Angel Leon Guerrero Santos Latte Stone Memorial Park

The Senator Angel Leon Guerrero Santos Latte Stone Memorial Park, also known as Latte Stone Park, is located in the heart of Hagåtña, Guam, and serves as a powerful reminder of the island's ancient Chamorro heritage. The park's centerpiece is a collection of eight latte stones, which are megalithic monuments consisting of a pillar (haligi) and a cap (tasa). These stones were used by the ancient Chamorro people as supports for their buildings as early as 500 A.D. In 1956, the U.S. military relocated these latte stones from the village of Mepo to their current location in Hagåtña after the original site was destroyed by military construction following World War II. The park not only showcases these impressive stones but also provides a serene environment for visitors to reflect on the island's history and culture. The park was renamed in 2004 to honor Senator Angel Leon Guerrero Santos, a prominent figure in the Chamorro rights movement. Senator Santos dedicated his life to advocating for the rights of the Chamorro people and is remembered for his efforts to reclaim Guam as a Chamorro nation. The park is also home to caves that were used by the Japanese during World War II as storage and bomb shelters, constructed by forced laborers. These caves are registered on the Guam and National Registers of Historic Places. Today, the Senator Angel Leon Guerrero Santos Latte Stone Memorial Park is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, offering a unique opportunity to connect with Guam's past and honor the legacy of Senator Santos.
