Getting There

    From Mount Jumullong Manglo, head south on Route 15 for about 10 miles until you reach the junction with Route 4. Turn left onto Route 4 and drive for approximately 3 miles. Look for signs indicating Mt. Schroeder in the village of Humåtak. Parking is available in designated areas. There are no tolls or parking fees.

  • Public Transport

    From Mount Jumullong Manglo, walk to the nearest bus stop on Route 15. Take Bus 1 or Bus 2 heading south towards Humåtak. The bus fare is approximately $2. After about 30 minutes, get off at the Humåtak stop. From there, you can walk approximately 1 mile to Mt. Schroeder, following the local road signs, or take a local taxi for around $10.

Mt. Schroeder, also known as Punto Christo, stands as a prominent natural landmark in southern Guam, near the village of Humåtak. Rising to 322 meters (1,057 feet), it offers a challenging yet rewarding hiking experience with stunning panoramic views. The mountain was originally known as Mount Finacresta but was later renamed in honor of Seaton Schroeder, an early naval governor of Guam. The trails of Mt. Schroeder wind through diverse terrain, from relatively easy paths near Priest Pools to steep ascents through jungle ridges and sawgrass. The initial part of the trail leads to Priest Pools, a series of natural volcanic rock pools. Beyond the pools, the path ascends towards the Trans World Radio site, continuing along the fence line before veering off into a more challenging climb. The hike to the summit can be demanding, with sections requiring hikers to navigate through tall sawgrass and steep inclines. Despite the challenges, the sweeping views from the top, encompassing the southern mountain range, Cocos Island, and the Geus River Valley, make the trek worthwhile. Birdwatchers will particularly enjoy the area, as it is home to various native bird species. Visitors are advised to wear long pants, long sleeves, and gloves to protect against the sharp sawgrass. It's also recommended to avoid hiking after rain, as the trails can become slippery.
