Discover more about Sella Bay

Sella Bay is a captivating destination on Guam's southwestern coast, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. Once the site of the ancient Chamorro village of Sidya, Sella Bay holds stories of Guam's pre-colonial past. During the Spanish-Chamorro Wars, Sidya allied with the Spanish, marking a significant chapter in the island's history. Notably, it was one of the few villages where Spanish authorities acknowledged the power of a female leader, a Maga'håga. Today, Sella Bay is a favorite hiking destination, showcasing diverse ecosystems. The trail descends from red volcanic hills into a lush jungle, eventually leading to the ocean. Along the way, you can spot Chamorro latte stones and the remnants of a Spanish settlement, including a historic bridge. The Spanish Bridge at Sella Bay, likely built in the 18th century as part of the coastal highway, stands as a testament to the island's colonial past. The bay itself offers stunning coastal views and opportunities for exploration. Keep an eye out for hermit crabs and vibrant marine life along the shore. Sella Bay also holds a place in modern Guam history as the site of a successful protest against U.S. military development in the 1970s, preserving its cultural and natural heritage. Whether you're seeking a peaceful hike, a glimpse into the past, or simply a moment of natural beauty, Sella Bay promises an unforgettable Guam experience.
