Senator Angel Leon Guerrero Santos Latte Stone Memorial Park, located in the heart of Hagåtña, Guam, is a tribute to the island's rich Chamorro heritage. The park's centerpiece is a collection of eight latte stones, ancient pillars that are iconic symbols of Chamorro culture. These megalithic monuments, consisting of a base (haligi) and a cap (tasa), were used to support buildings as early as 500 A.D. The latte stones on display were relocated from the village of Mepo in the Fena area during the 1950s. The park itself was established during the administration of Governor Ford Quint Elvidge. In 2004, the park was renamed to honor the late Senator Angel Leon Guerrero Santos, a prominent Chamorro rights activist. He often visited the park to contemplate Chamorro human rights. In addition to the latte stones, the park also features caves that were used by the Japanese during World War II. These caves, constructed with forced labor, served as storage and bomb shelters. Visitors are welcome to explore the caves, but are cautioned to enter at their own risk. The park provides a tranquil escape with gardens and scenic views.
